CCSCT Awarded $20,000 GVEC Power Up Program Grant

During the week of October 30, CCSCT was awarded and presented with the GVEC Power Up Program Grant in the amount of $20,000. The grant award will be used to increase the safety of homes in Guadalupe County by providing the means to prevent common home injuries and temperature related injuries.

Priority for assistance through this program will be given to low income households with children, elderly, and or/disabled members. With education on how to use strategies and devices to make their home safer, households will be given items such as child home safety kits, carbon monoxide and smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, guard rails, furniture anchors, non-slip mats, and other items depending on their household needs.

For temperature related illnesses, households may be eligible to receive heaters, fans, air conditioners, and blankets. Educational programming will also be offered throughout the county at schools and various events.

The Seguin Fire Department will be a key partner in providing various fire safety workshops including programming specific to the elderly residents of Seguin Housing Authority apartment complexes.
