CCSCT awarded $300,000 “Fund for Veterans’ Assistance” Grant

Community Council of South Central Texas to provide financial assistance to area Veterans through partnership with the Texas Veterans Commission.

South Central, Texas: The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) announced that CCSCT’s, “Veterans’ Financial Assistance Program,” was selected as a 2020-2021 $300,000.00 General Assistance Grantee by the Texas Veterans Commission. This year, the FVA has granted 133 organizations over $30 million in funding.

The, “Veterans’ Financial Assistance Program” will help eligible Veterans, Veteran Dependents, and Surviving Spouses. Through the program, CCSCT will assist beneficiaries  with short-term and temporary financial Emergency Services that do not exceed six months as per RFA to include: one-time utility payments (may include electric, gas, propane, water, sewer, trash, late fees), one-time rental/mortgage payment (may include rent, mortgage, late fees, application fees, security deposits), and transportation services including bus passes, city and county transit passes, council of government transit service passes, taxis, and ride shares (Uber, Lyft). Emergency services will be available for each veteran up to 6 months. CCSCT will not require beneficiaries to meet a poverty or other income level as a requirement for eligibility. Financial need will be determined by the veteran being behind on rent or mortgage (s) and/or utilities.

The Veterans’ Financial Assistance program will be available to eligible applicants in 21 out of 23 CCSCT service counties including:  Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, La Salle, Live Oak, McMullen, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson, and Zavala.
