Books 4 Big Kids Event Benefiting Uvalde, TX Students

Community Council of South Central Texas and Usborne Books team up to provide, “Books of Comfort,” to Secondary Students.

SOUTH CENTRAL, TX: Over 3,000 books were gifted to Uvalde students, thanks to the coordinated efforts of Usborne Books and More Consultant, Elizabeth James, Community Council of South Central Texas, Uvalde ISD Assistant Principal and CCSCT Board Member, Joel Barbosa, and several independent Usborne Consultants. The group provided, “Books of Comfort and Healing,” for the students of Uvalde during this time of heavy sorrow and loss.

“We worked together to raise $18,000 for students & siblings to receive over 400 sets of the Mindful Book collection,” stated James, “each comes with seven activity books that are designed to use creativity to tackle complex emotions such as stress, worries, sadness and anxiety, loss and much more…we may not able to take away the trauma that the students are feeling, but we hope to offer them a huge support through literacy outlet.”

The event took place on Saturday, June 25th, from 11am-2pm at the Uvalde Civic Center at 300 E Main St., in Uvalde. In addition, CCSCT Light, Rental, and Weatherization applications were available to any family that needed further assistance. Coordinators also attended the event to answer any questions families had in regard to assistance programs.  CCSCT is proud to be of service to the Uvalde Community and is working tirelessly to assist families in the area through this challenging time.
