Collaboration Brings Vital Community Center to Life: CCSCT’s Action Center Opens in Karnes City

SOUTH CENTRAL, TX: Community Council of South Central Texas is proud to announce the Grand Opening of their, “Action Center,” in Karnes City, TX. The occasion will be commemorated with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on June 27, 2024 at 10 am at 302 N. Butler St., Karnes City, Texas 78118. The intent of opening the center is to offer a vital meeting space for community organizations and to provide computer and internet connectivity to the general public, with a focus on the low income population in an effort to provide access to resources to help bridge them out of poverty.

Bringing the Action Center to fruition was a collaboration between CCSCT, Atascosa Health Center, Inc., and Methodist Healthcare Ministries. CCSCT Executive Director Bobby Deike expands on the partnership, “…the Action Center became a reality thanks to the generous donation of the building by Atascosa Health Center, Inc. This donation also included a second building, which now houses the CCSCT WIC Clinic and Community Services Office. We are immensely grateful for this contribution, as it significantly enhances our capacity to continue and expand services in Karnes City and Karnes County. Furthermore, CCSCT received a $100,000 grant from Methodist Healthcare Ministries, which enabled us to completely renovate the Action Center and make necessary repairs to the second building. Methodist Healthcare Ministries’ financial support was crucial in preparing the Action Center for its opening.”

The center houses a small computer lab and a community meeting room that can accommodate 20-30 visitors depending on the table layout. The meeting space and computer lab will be available by appointment only during business hours. Patrons may contact Community Services Coordinator, Rubi Munoz, for availability at (830)583-9731, Monday-Wednesday, and Friday, 8am-5pm. The lab will not be open on Thursdays.
