CCSCT Honors the Life and Service of Rev. Jimmie L. Flakes, Jr.

SOUTH CENTRAL, TEXAS: Community Council of South Central Texas (CCSCT) mourns the passing of Reverend Jimmie Lee Flakes, Jr., a dedicated board member and lifelong public servant, who passed away on May 6, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born in Holland, Texas, Rev. Flakes devoted his life to service—first in the U.S. Air Force, then as a pastor, civic leader, and advocate for families across Texas. He served as a city council member in Giddings and Seguin, a school board trustee in Victoria, and held leadership roles in state government, including Deputy Land Commissioner and Director of Minority Business Affairs. His ministry spanned several congregations, culminating in his return to Second Baptist Church in Seguin, where he served faithfully until his passing.

Rev. Flakes joined the CCSCT Board of Directors in 2015 as a representative of Guadalupe County, contributing his insight and leadership to our mission of helping families achieve self-sufficiency. His commitment to community service and his belief in the power of individuals to improve their lives aligned seamlessly with CCSCT’s goals.

“Rev. Flakes was dedicated to service on the CCSCT Board of Directors…” stated Executive Director, Bobby Deike, “he was an At-Large Member on our Executive Committee and served on the Finance, Governance, and Strategic Planning Committees. Rev. Flakes also brought to CCSCT the opportunity to be the lead applicant on a multi-million-dollar EPA Community Change Grant to benefit the designated disadvantaged areas of Seguin.”

We extend our deepest condolences to his wife of 58 years, Dorothy, their daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Rev. Flakes’ legacy of service and compassion will continue to inspire our work and the communities he served.
