Light Bill Assistance Program Underway for 2023 Funding Cycle.

South Central, TX: Community Council of South Central Texas is proud to announce the availability of funding for the Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (C.E.A.P.) provided by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. Funds are available to assist qualified families in the following counties: Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, LaSalle, Live Oak, Maverick, McMullen, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson, and Zavala.

The Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) combines education and financial assistance to help low-income consumers reduce their utility bills. Services include utility payment assistance for electric, natural gas, and propane.

This year, two applications are available, one for new clients, and another for returning clients looking to reapply for 2023 assistance. The renewal application will not require returning clients to submit identifying documents unless there was a change or addition to the previous application cycle.

Also new for this year, CCSCT will assist with water bills through LIHWAP (Low Income Water Assistance Program). Applicants may qualify for payment of their current water bill balance, as well as an additional $85 per month through September 2023. Applicants must also attach their current water bill and billing history to their Utility Assistance application to apply for water bill assistance.

CCSCT assigns priority to households with the least amount of income and the greatest energy costs. Priority is also given to vulnerable individuals 60 years and over, persons with disabilities and families with children five years of age or under. Eligible families may qualify for assistance up to $2,400. Non-vulnerable population households will receive up to 6 monthly payments; while vulnerable population households may receive up to12 monthly payments over a program year. In addition, households may qualify for HVAC appliance heating and cooling repairs for up to $7,500.

At this moment, application processing volume is high and turnaround is taking longer than normal.  Due to this high demand, we humbly request our client’s patience.  You may pick up an application at your local CCSCT office on their designated pick up days, or download a copy at, https://www.ccsct.org/utility-assistance-apply-for-services/ . Only complete applications with all necessary documents will be processed.
