Community Action Network Celebrates 57 years of Service

CCSCT invites the Community to Celebrate Community Action Month.

South Central, Texas: May 2021 marks the 57th year since the Community Action Network was established to help American families and communities overcome obstacles to poverty. Over 1000 agencies across the country are working every day to create opportunities and transform the lives of their neighbors making communities stronger and helping families across the US thrive. This year, Community Council of South Central Texas, a proud member of the Community Action Network, will also commemorate 56 years helping families throughout the South Central Texas area. “Each May, during Community Action Month, we reflect on the impact CCSCT and our network has had on families,” said Bobby Deike, CCSCT Executive Director. “Last year alone, our Agency empowered 22 individuals to attain self-sufficiency, weatherized 62 homes, made 30,703 utility assistance payments, helped 4,228 households with Rental assistance, kept 182 Veterans out of homelessness, and served 28,212 individuals with WIC assistance.”  CCSCT was established in May of 1965 to wage the war on poverty. Currently CCSCT provides services in 23 counties in South Central Texas including Atascosa, Bandera, Bee, Comal, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, La Salle, Live Oak, Maverick, Medina, McMullen, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson, and Zavala. Community Action Agencies serve 99% of all American counties with life-changing services to help families achieve financial stability. All agencies are locally controlled and represented by the private, public, and low-income sectors of the community. “We are proud of our communities’ participation in the development and oversight of our programs,” said Mr. Deike “Their engagement helps us to be more effective in our approach by determining what South Central Texas needs.” To celebrate the continued success of Community Action and raise awareness throughout the area, CCSCT will be providing educational and informative content on their social media platforms at https://linktr.ee/ccsct_cares.
